Good Syllabus

I decided to go to Westminster because I wanted to be at a university in the centre of London, one that was easy to commute to, but most importantly I wanted a course that was uniquely tailored for the career I wanted. Coming from an American educational background, I expected the British system to be very dogmatic and inflexible, but I was glad that my particular course was liberal in terms of course content and structure. For example, some material specific to the Middle East was included in the syllabus, and the same for other nationalities in the course.

Experienced Faculties

I specifically wanted to study for an MSc in International Public Health Nutrition, and looking at the University of Westminster I thought how appropriate it would be to study internationally. I also thought the course would prepare me for any job in the public health nutrition field. The diversity of students enrolled in the university made class participation very interesting, worldly, and unique. If everyone was from the same country, the personal experiences shared during the course would not have been the same.

Great Preparation

I chose to study for my Masters at Westminster, specifically because of the course. I think the University was one of the first in Europe to offer Business Psychology as an MSc. There were other courses in areas such as organisational psychology, but Westminster led the way with this particular course.

Wonderful Place to Learn

I did my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Westminster, partly because, living in London, it was so convenient for me. But I also came along to an open day, and met the teaching staff, and then it was obvious that this was exactly where I wanted to be. Now I have applied to do my PhD at Westminster as well. Actually the University was even better than I expected it to be. I had been to some other open days and looked at other places to study, and they all seemed quite generic to me, but the course at Westminster looked more interesting and more challenging – it really pushes you. But I think it helps you to achieve even more, and it is so rewarding when you complete your course.

Great Learning Environment

My first degree was a Business and Management BA in Lithuania, and then I did a Commercial Law LLM in Lithuania, but coming to Westminster was my first experience of studying in the UK.

Good Reputation

I wanted to have the best communication MA for my career move in international communications and global media business management, and Westminster’s School of Media, Arts and Design has an enviable and distinctive reputation for innovation, science and technology, a strong international element and expertise in all aspects of communications and global media. Through the Communication MA. I did not just learn about theories of communications and global media trends, I also had many opportunities to put this learning into practice, both in teams and individually.

Lots of opportunities

I chose Westminster over a host of other universities, as it was the only one offering the exact subjects I was looking for. I wanted a university which not only offered valuable subjects, but backed it up with a good approach and execution too. The University offers various ways of showcasing your talents, and does not just concentrate on academics. It gave me lots of opportunities to develop, and being the editor of the Smoke newspaper helped me interact with other students and increased my knowledge regarding man management and media.

Good Course

In 2001 I did the Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine at the time I was practising acupuncture, but after graduating I started to practise herbal medicine. Then I learned about the MSc. I wanted more information and knowledge to help me do a better job. One of the most important things for me was to learn how to do western research in Chinese herbal medicine, and how to carry out literature reviews. They were areas of knowledge that I lacked, and both have been really beneficial for me since I completed my course.

Right decision

When I was looking around in the mid-90s, there were a couple of universities offering MScs in IT Security. One big difference with the course at Westminster was that it offered a much wider range of the elements of day-to-day working. For example, the business communications element included presenting skills and report writing – the sort of things that you have to do on a daily basis, but that you do not get trained in. So as well as giving me a specialist knowledge of IT security, the course also gave me a much broader education in good business practice.
