Overview

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an environmental education charity and eco centre based near Machynlleth in Mid Wales. Focusing on solutions, CAT has nearly 50 years’ experience of living and working with nature, and providing the skills and knowledge to tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis. CAT is home to the Graduate School of the Environment, which offers flexible postgraduate degrees in a wide range of sustainability-related topics. Lecturers and tutors are leading experts in their field and provide inspiration and knowledge to students from around the globe on topics from behaviour change to architecture, food to renewable energy. Students combine both the theory and the practice into their learning with CAT’s facilities offering real-life learning examples of sustainable materials, technologies and buildings, including the award winning WISE (Wales Institute for Sustainable Education) building. With over 1,800 graduates from the Graduate School of the Environment, and hundreds of thousands of supporters and visitors, we are creating and teaching changemakers to take the urgent action needed towards developing positive solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency.
