Northumbria University has invested more than GBP 250 million in its campus facilities over the past decade. Most recently, this has included a GBP 52 million investment in two new state-of-the-art facilities to provide major benefits for Computing and Information Sciences as well as Architecture and Built Environment students.
Supporting one of the university’s strongest research areas, Northumbria has spent over GBP 7 million on the new Computing and Information Sciences Building. The facility consists of multiple research spaces and specialist teaching areas, as well as a ‘Maker Space’ to encourage students to collaborate, test and work on new ideas. 58% of outputs in the department are considered world-leading or internationally excellent, and the investment has only enhanced the facilities and opportunities available to students.
With a renowned architecture school and an international reputation for excellence, the department now has access to state-of-the-art studios designed by award-winning architects. The world-class home is an extension of the university’s Grade II listed Sutherland Building and gives the school a world-class home to enhance the student experience.

A dedicated International Academic Scholarship scheme is in place at Northumbria to reward outstanding academic achievement. These scholarships are offered to international students joining full-time courses as a reduction in first year tuition fees.
Overseas students who are self-funding may also be eligible for a scholarship of up to GBP 6000 over three years, with GBP 3000 for the first year. It is based on several factors including overall and individual subject grades, level of qualification and the type of institution at which they have studied.

Three annual scholarships awarded to Latin American students starting postgraduate programmes at Northumbria, in partnership with Santander Universities. The GBP 5,000 award goes towards tuition fees for master’s degree students, who must be residents of the participating countries such Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and either have or expect to obtain the international equivalent of a UK first class or 2:1 honour’s degree at undergraduate level.
Northumbria is one of 11 leading UK universities to have collaborated with Aviva to offer a 20% discount on tuition fees to outstanding students from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam, if either the students or their parents are Aviva customers.
Students applying to Northumbria University generally require an English language test to prove proficiency, such as IELTS, Pearson or other equivalents. Entry requirements for academic courses vary from one to another and therefore students should check individual course requirements.
Students failing to meet requirements can attend a range of pre-sessional English and Study Skills programmes provided by the university throughout the year, or a large Summer School, which provides a warm, friendly and supportive environment. They aim to prepare international students for study at Northumbria or elsewhere in the UK, whether undergraduate or postgraduate study. English and Study Skills programmes give students language and other academic skills necessary to benefit as much as possible from their future academic courses and involve a content-based approach. Participants will also develop the ideas and concepts they need to participate in the global academic community.
