The University of Exeter continuously invests in building new facilities, services and spaces for students and staff - ensuring that it remains a contemporary, modern university for the students of tomorrow.
One of the foremost developments is the creation of an immersive ecosystem of makerspaces, dedicated to enhancing entrepreneurship and digital innovation in engineering. Students will be able to use cutting-edge technologies and collaborative spaces develop themselves in areas like design thinking, gamification, robotic and digital simulation, 3D printing and prototyping.
Recent makerspaces include the Creative Quadrant, located at the university’s Streatham Campus Business School, as well as an Engineering and Digital Makerspace on the same campus. Connecting these spaces through established facilities, such as the innovative Digital Humanities Lab, unlocks new teaching and research methods that push well beyond the traditional lecture and seminar approach.
The new Centre for Resilience Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW) is another recent Streatham campus development. This purpose-built, trans-disciplinary research centre is a conduit for innovative research into the water sector. With high-quality laboratory facilities and collaborative spaces, researchers, academics and industry partners are using this new space to tackle the most pressing issues facing global water security today.
The university is enhancing infrastructure at its Penryn Campus in Cornwall through the refurbishment of key facilities. This includes upgraded laboratory spaces, an expanded IT suite, improved teaching labs and seminar rooms, new dedicated social, study, and research areas for postgraduates.
Recent developments include the opening of the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre at the heart of Streatham Campus — a welcoming space for reflection, prayer, and interfaith connection, co-created with students, staff, and local faith communities. Exeter has also invested GBP 2.7 million in a new wellbeing facility at the top of Mardon Hill, providing additional space for face-to-face wellbeing appointments and counselling in a relaxed, private environment.
