Boston Architectural College (BAC), first established in 1889 as the Boston Architectural Club, offers specialized, high-level undergraduate and graduate degrees. The institution focuses on architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture and design studies and is the largest private college in New England. BAC is accredited by various associations with a reputation for excellence, including the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
BAC features a unique student body, with 91 percent of students in employment whilst attending, earning both money and professional experience as they develop their skills. Students emerge well-prepared when entering the work force. BAC also offers flexibility for students to study online, allowing full-time work around completing of degree studies.
Students at BAC have the chance to take part in numerous extracurricular activities, from clubs, societies and voluntary work to parties and festivals. As well as many activities to get involved with on campus, the local Boston area has a great selection of museums, theatres, bars and restaurants.
BAC's faculty and staff are readily available to provide support and assistance to students, with information on finances as well as dedicated help for those with disabilities and more. There is also a specialist accommodation service to advise on different options such as off-campus housing and residential halls available to students.
Students at BAC can also seek career guidance alongside the practical work experience they gain in class. The Practice Department allows meetings with staff members to discuss and receive professional advice with the aim of effectively pursuing career goals and needs. There is additional support available via online sources at each stage of the job hunt, including CV, cover letter and portfolio advice, plus interview practice.
Boston Architectural College is excited to announce a range of exciting new developments that it will be introducing to students and staff from the beginning of the Fall semester.
The college will be offering high quality hybrid learning pathways and educational experiences for all students from the Fall semester, through which learners will be able to combine the best elements of remote learning and face-to-face experiences. As a result, students at the college will be able to attain outstanding quality education supported by hands-on, personalized learning experiences while retaining the safety and flexibility of distance learning. This is especially good news for students who have been unable to relocate to the Boston area, as their studies will be able to continue with minimal disruption.
Staff and other faculty at the college continue to work hard to ensure that planning for the future is dynamic and conscious of the different challenges that the future may hold. As a result, the campus and its staff are in a position to flexibly manage the opening of the campus to maintain education delivery while aligning with local and state-level conditions.
Boston Architectural College remains conscious of the challenges for students travelling to or securing visas for life in Boston due to the varied vaccination levels and restrictions around the world. Students can rest assured that they can access guidance and support from the college and its advisors. The college is committed to ensuring that all students have access to and are able to make the most of their BAC education.

The BAC offers many scholarships and awards to students who are enrolled in their degree programs.
Each year, the BAC awards a total of USD 100,000 in Dean's Awards. This scholarship is a competitive award granted to incoming students who have demonstrated academic excellence. It is a partial scholarship that is renewable for the duration of a student's program at the BAC. Students are automatically considered for this award if they complete their application for admission to the BAC by February 15th for the fall semester and November 15th for the spring semester.
BAC's alumni have instituted many scholarships and endowments to recognize students with outstanding academic achievements and to help those with financial needs. The John Worthington Ames Scholarship, worth USD 10,000, the Chleck Family Foundation Scholarship, and the Howard F. Elkus Scholarship are a few of the scholarships available for students at BAC.
BAC follows an open admission policy that provides exceptional design education to under-represented groups in the field of design. Admission decisions are made throughout the year on a rolling basis. Admissions requirements vary based on level of entry. International undergraduate applicants need to provide credential evaluation for high school diplomas received outside the United States, while graduate applicants have to submit credential evaluation for all degrees received outside the United States.
Students whose native language is not English require proof of their English proficiency. BAC accepts TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, Pearson Test of English Academic, and Cambridge English: Advanced test scores, as proof of English proficiency.
BAC may also consider attendance at an IB school for a minimum of three years, college/university for a minimum of two years, and/or other situations as proof of English proficiency.
At BAC, classroom and practical learning go hand-in-hand. Alongside lectures and on-campus studio experiences, students acquire vital professional experience through real-world employment and hands-on projects, earning credit and building compounding skills in both settings.
BAC has over 300 practising faculty made up of architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and other design-related experts offering students an excellent design education, steeped in the practicalities of real-world experience.
To complete the applied learning element of their education, BAC students typically earn practice hours by acquiring professional design skills through employment. The Practice Department provides professional advising and a range of resources to help students identify their career goals and determine the appropriate steps towards developing and realizing those goals.
Staff at the Practice Department meet students on a one-on-one basis to assess their practice work and to offer feedback. The assessment helps students to fine-tune their skills and develop a strategy regarding next steps to achieve their career goals.
The BAC offers ten graduate and undergraduate programs for international students through its four schools.
The School of Architecture offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture. The programs are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. The School of Interior Architecture’s undergraduate and graduate programs in interior architecture prepare students to become NCIDQ-certified interior designers through creative scholarship and real-world practical experience.
Landscape architecture programs at BAC are delivered through the School of Landscape Architecture. These bachelor’s and master’s programs train students to handle contemporary urban problems in architecture and landscape design. The School of Design Studies offers master’s and bachelor’s programs in a wide array of design disciplines, including human health, historical preservation, and sustainable design, to prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving design professions.
In addition, the BAC degree programs also expose students to liberal studies.
BAC offers a wide range of industry standard and cutting-edge technology to create an educational experience that will support both students' academic and work-based projects. Available resources include high-performance computing, with over 80 design programs available on any of BAC’s 100+ lab machines, 3D physical production with laser cutters, CNC routers, 3D Printers, large format printing and scanning, and render farm-based node rendering. The computer labs are maintained and supported by experienced technicians and specialists.
The BAC library offers a rich variety of learning resources to students. The library provides electronic, print, and visual image resources through its four facilities. Dismantled and reassembled piece by piece in the current building, the library also includes the Memorial Library (walls, books, furniture, and all), originating from the Boston Architectural Club with historical architectural volumes dating back to the 1600s. The Materials Library houses thousands of physical material samples including carpets, ceramic tiles, fabrics, furniture and others.
BAC partners with Pine Manor College, located in nearby Chestnut Hill, a quiet part of the town. Double and single rooms, both with a shared bathroom, are available. Meal options are also available. If students are interested in finding their own accommodation, the Office of Student Life (OSL) offers assistance in exploring housing options in and around BAC.
