Wonderful Experience

The College of Lake Country is such a big school but what I love the most is that the classrooms are small. I loved how welcoming everyone was at orientation. Seeing students from other countries was really cool because I have never been outside of my country before. I like that CLC offers many student clubs and organizations, so I am able to make new friends easily. I really like that there's an International Club because it's like a home away from home; all of the international students get together in one place in order to support each other. show less

Being an international student from England, (U.K.), has been an experience of a lifetime to say the least. The College of Lake County is a brilliant place to enhance and grow your education. The majority of teaching staff are not only extremely knowledgeable in their respective fields, but also fantastic at sharing that knowledge with their students. They do a very good job of promoting curiosity, and helping to grow analytical and critical thinking skills. Of course, every now and again, one will come across a professor who's teaching style doesn't fit as well as it could with the student's learning style. This is probably the biggest piece of advice I can give; if this ever happens to you, then speak to the professor, speak to the department to get in touch with other professors who teach the same class, speak to your adviser, and finally, switch classes. You're going to be paying a lot of money for your higher education and for international student's that goes triply so! So get the education you're going to be paying for. Don't suffer, or struggle with a class where you have a difficult time learning the material because you're only hindering your own future prospects. That being said, having been at CLC for 2 years, I've only had to do that once. The professors here are so passionate and inspiring it makes attending their classes very exciting! Furthermore there are some fantastic student employment opportunities on campus. I myself had two jobs last year, one as a Student Ambassador and one as an International Student Ambassador. These jobs helped me gain experience in the educational and administrative fields and helped pay for my textbooks whilst giving me some pocket money to go out and do things with my mates like going to the cinema, bowling, fishing...etc. All in all, my experience at CLC has been absolutely brilliant and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone. not only will you be paying only a third of the cost of most 4-year universities for two years, you'll also be decreasing the amount of eventual debt that you'll be in! As a final piece of advice, I'd like to say get involved. Don't just be a student who comes to class and goes home. University, college, call it what you will, is an experience that will shape your adult life for years to come. So throw yourself out there, make friends and connections and build a network of people you can rely on...but most of all, take time to just take a step back and enjoy yourself. show less
