Harvard University has the distinction of being the first college in the American colonies, being founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1636. Officially established by a vote by the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Harvard University, through continued efforts in inclusion and belonging over nearly four centuries, has built a community of students and faculty comprising varied backgrounds, cultures, identities, races, life experiences, beliefs, perspectives, and values.
