Lewis University began in 1932 as aviation technical school for boys, with the aid of a philanthropist, the vision of a Catholic Bishop, and the donation of 170 acres of farmland in Chicago. The university is located 35 miles southwest of the city of Chicago and has had aviation as its calling card from the days of inception. Lewis University has trained WWII pilots and has the won Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships. The university is inspired by its Catholic and Lasallian heritage and offers a value-centered curriculum, rich in knowledge, wisdom, fidelity, and justice, and guided by the spirit of association which fosters community in all teaching, learning, and service. Lewis is a coeducational, Catholic university with a diverse student body, including traditional-aged students and adults of all ages, all together totalling around 6500.
