Madonna University, located in Livonia, Michigan, USA, offers over 100 career-focused undergraduate degrees, along with online courses, graduate programmes and transfer classes.
Boasting a small student-staff radio of 12:1, students benefit from plenty of one-on-one time with dedicated teaching staff. It was also the first university in the country to offer a bachelor's degree in Sign Language Studies.
As well as the main campus, Madonna University has sites in Gaylord, Macomb, Dubai, UAE, and China. During their time studying, students have plenty of opportunities to take part in one of the many international exchange programmes, seeing them take classes abroad in host countries such as the United Kingdom and Israel.
While undertaking their courses, students have access to the Careers Development Office, which provides information on the first steps to finding a job in their area of interest. Help includes everything from writing a cover letter, to applying for internships.
Students are encouraged to get involved in life at the institution by joining in one of the many student organisations, which range from the Music Club to the Red Cross Club. Each academic year, a number of annual events take place, including welcome parties, dances and games. Students wishing to travel and explore the area are also able to join Madonna Miles, a group that takes them to local attractions and sporting events on a bus.
To make life at Madonna University as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, a number of resources are in place, including the Counselling and Disability Resources Centre, which helps students discover and develop their individuality in a supportive learning environment. There is also a Writing Centre to help students with their academics.
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) recently granted an initial seven-year accreditation, the longest possible.
The Council concluded that Madonna’s undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education degree programmes met all five standards for accreditation and did not need improvement in any area.
“This is a wonderful testament to the dedication and hard work of the faculty and staff in our College of Education,” said Madonna University President Michael Grandillo.
“The dean, professors and staff, in the College, all share a true passion for education and they pass that on to their students as they prepare them to teach the next generation of learners,” he added.
Madonna’s teacher education programme has earned exemplary status from the Michigan Department of Education since the inception of state rankings.
Madonna University’s College of Nursing and Health announced its new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) programme. Qualified students can earn a BSN in 16 months with a combination of online coursework, on-site lab experience and clinical placements through St. John Providence, the ABSN programme’s academic practice partner.
The ABSN programme offers three start dates each year, Fall, Winter, and Summer. The University is accepting applications for the Fall 2018 semester.
Madonna University is accredited as an institution and receives its institutional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region of the United States and thereby grants membership in the Commission. Madonna University offers a variety of accredited programmes like Education, Business and Nursing.
The accreditation process evaluates teaching practices among other factors. The rigorous process also certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the programmes offered at Madonna meet the high educational standards established by the accrediting bodies.
Faculty and staff at Madonna get involved in offering support to students. They advise students with academic plans, career and professional options and monitor academic progress. They also provide information on policies and procedures and provide referrals to academic and support resources.
Madonna’s faculty do their best to help students identify and maximise their talents that are in turn beneficial to employers and the community.
