The University of California was established in 1868, emerging out of a vision in the State Constitution of a university that would “contribute even more than California’s gold to the glory and happiness of advancing generations.” Since its inception, UC Berkeley has been reimagining the world by challenging convention and generating unparalleled intellectual, economic, and social value. Home to some of the world’s greatest minds, UC Berkeley has more than 130 academic departments and 80 interdisciplinary research units addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. The university has over 45,000 students enrolled over 300 degree programs. Support services offered to students at UC Berkeley include academic resources, assistance with note-taking, peer tutoring, and more. UCF Berkeley has a vibrant urban setting and organizes daily activities, performances, and events which are open to the campus community and the general public.
