Overview

Established in 1889 as New Mexico’s flagship institution, the University of New Mexico today offers a wide variety of academic programs across twelve schools and colleges. Academic options available for students include more than 200 degree and certificate programs, including 94 baccalaureate, 71 masters, and 37 doctoral degrees. The university occupies close to 800 acres in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area with a population of over 900,000 people. The university offers students a distinctive campus environment with a Pueblo Revival architectural theme, with the buildings echoing nearby Pueblo Indian villages. From the magnificent mesas to the west, past the banks of the historic Rio Grande to the Sandia Mountains to the east, Albuquerque offers an ideal blend of culture, cuisine, styles, stories, people, and pursuits.
