It was purchased by the state of Rhode Island in 1888 and still features the original farmhouse building built around 1796. Early university buildings are organised around the main quadrangle and are constructed using locally quarried granite. Newer academic centers, sports facilities and administration buildings come together in a visual blend of historic and modern.
