Founded in 1862, the University of South Dakota (USD) is the oldest and only public liberal arts university in the state. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, with its liberal arts curriculum encompassing majors in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. USD is also home to the state’s only law and medical schools. The university’s beautiful 274-acre campus in Vermillion is located along the bluffs above the Missouri River in southeast South Dakota. The campus allows students to experience a mix of the traditional and contemporary, from the historic beauty of Old Main to the cutting-edge technology housed in the Lee Medicine & Science Building.

This is my first year in the United State. I came here in December 14, 2017 during the winter break to get a Bsc. degree in Computer Science. The first impression I had was amazing. First I was so impressed that the University came to pick me up at the Sioux Falls Airport, and it was all free. This really meant a lot to me Coming from Vietnam to United State of America, my English was not so good. The professors and academic advisors were very kind and patient with my leaning process. This makes me more comfortable and I could easily approach them to ask for help with my studies. Clearly, the faculty members are very committed to the students; they really want you to succeed and they help you build your career in the right direction.. I have also had the privilege of making great friends here in vermillion. You will be certain that someone will say hi to you on the street of vermillion no matter the color of your skin. It makes you feel at home and so welcome. As per the University, it is really a beautiful scenic view. The University looks like an harry Potter Movie with many beautiful settings. The University also has a lot of facilities like the Dome and the Wellness center where Student can exercise and have fun. University of South Dakota is indeed an amazing place to study, build your career and build remarkable relationships with great people. show less

USD is truly a unique university in the United States. I am currently in my senior year, and I look back at my time here as some of the best years of my life so far. Saying people here are friendly is an understatement. At times, I will just be walking down the street and people that I don't even know will say hi and wave. In addition, the faculty are incredible. Professors actually spend time getting to know students and truly care for them. There have been countless times when I have gone to a professor to get advice, even on matters unrelated to school. Overall, I have loved my time here and would highly recommend it to prospective students looking to broaden their horizons while getting a world-class education. show less
