About Georgian College

Georgian College is one of Canada’s leading colleges of applied arts and technology and offers students a comprehensive range of career-focused and skills-based programs across a wide variety of professional sectors. The college offers credentials at many levels, including apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships, certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, degrees, and professional development programs.

Established in 1967, Georgian supports more than 13,000 full-time students, including a vibrant community of 5,500 international students representing 92 countries worldwide. Programs are offered across the college’s four campuses in Central Ontario. The largest campus is in Barrie, a modern and growing city located on the shores of Lake Simcoe with easy access to Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Georgian fosters a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship and is recognized as Canada’s first and only Ashoka U Changemaker College. The college also enjoys one of the highest graduate employment rates in Ontario, with 90.3 percent of graduates finding employment within six months of graduation.

Scholarships & funding

Georgian understands the cost of education can be a significant barrier for students and is dedicated to keeping tuition fees accessible to learners from all socio-economic backgrounds.

The college provides many financial support options through financial aid, plus other forms of advice and guidance including help securing low-cost housing, tips on budgeting and fee payment, and advice on how to access part-time job opportunities.

Additionally, there are more than 900 donor-funded in-course awards and scholarships available to students each year with a combined value of over CAD 1M. The average value of a scholarship is around CAD 1,200, and recipients may be selected based on the following criteria:

Eligibility

Entry requirements

For most programs, students must be 19 years of age and hold a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

Some courses may require additional prerequisites (such as essays or portfolios), and students will be advised of these requirements when applying for those specific programs. There are many alternative pathways to enrolment for students who don’t meet the typical entry criteria, and applications are considered on an individual basis.

International applicants must provide evidence of English language proficiency. There are several accepted criteria that may be found on the college’s English language proficiency requirements page, including different testing providers and minimum scores.

Applications are completed online, and prospective students are advised to familiarize themselves with any important dates and deadlines before submitting, along with the requirements needed for a successful application.

Department and Faculty

Teaching quality

Georgian students benefit from a continually updated curriculum that incorporates a range of teaching methods, emphasizes practical, hands-on learning, and encourages innovation and entrepreneurship. Most programs offer formal work experience training as part of the course, with opportunities ranging from paid internships to field placements.

Instructors have advanced qualifications in their subject areas and a wealth of industry experience and professional practice. Many Georgian faculty members have experience teaching and working overseas and share their expertise with international students from all backgrounds.

They also continually develop their professional practice along with their teaching commitments at the college, so students can gain important industry insights as well as access to professional contacts. And many programs have industry partners that help steer learning to meet the ever-changing needs of businesses, helping students to graduate in a position ready to meet those challenges.

The average class size is around 25 students, ensuring plenty of time with staff, and a more personalized approach towards education.

Department structure

Georgian has more than 130 market-driven programs across its Ontario campuses (Barrie, Midland, Orangeville and Owen Sound). These campuses play important roles in their local communities, acting as both academic centres, and hubs for social and cultural activities.

Campus and facilities

Facilities

Georgian’s four campuses have modern study spaces, state-of-the-art computer labs, and fully equipped libraries where students have free access to books, journals and digital resources. The college has both on-site and off-site fitness centres in each campus community, as well as sport and intramural teams (volleyball, badminton, football, basketball, golf and soccer).

There are a variety of options for on-campus accommodation with residences offered at the Barrie and Owen Sound campuses, all maintained to a high standard to provide a comfortable standard of living. There’s a wide variety of food and drink vendors too, with many cafés, canteens and coffee shops to keep students refreshed and refueled.

Students are able to access food options with ONEcard, Georgian’s official student identification card. This also serves as a student card, library card, print card, athletic centre pass, bus pass, and a convenient method of payment for select vendors and services both on- and off-campus – all in one!
