What will I learn?

Our Advanced Commerce degree will ensure you’re well-equipped to thrive in your chosen field, regardless of your desired career path. From the very beginning, this course offers a unique learning experience with early opportunities to build professional skills. You’ll learn alongside motivated peers, developing strong connections that support your growth and success. As you progress, you’ll gain in-depth expertise in your chosen major, then focus on a research topic that will form the basis of your Honours year. Throughout your studies, you’ll acquire a powerful blend of knowledge, ethical reasoning, technical expertise and research experience – skills that will enhance your employability, support lifelong learning, and prepare you for future postgraduate study.Wherever possible, our business majors are designed to conform to the membership standards of relevant professional bodies. Refer to individual business majors for specific professional recognition and accreditation information. You'll have the opportunity to apply your disciplinary knowledge to a major research project that connects what you’ve learned in class to real-world issues. This unit serves as a bridge between coursework and the final honours year by equipping you with the skills and experience needed to undertake independent research with confidence and purpose. You'll identify a research question or societal issue relevant to your field of study. Projects may be traditional academic research or applied investigations that address local or global challenges, such as sustainability, social equity, digital futures, or ethical business practices. All businesses need to comply with relevant laws and policies, such as when entering contracts, acquiring assets, leasing premises and hiring staff. Experts in business law are therefore vital to organisations to ensure legal compliance and to mitigate legal risk.In this course you’ll gain comprehensive knowledge of the laws that impact businesses and commercial operations. You’ll learn how laws are created, changed and applied to organisations, and how to meet legal requirements and manage legal risk. You’ll acquire skills in a range of legal areas, from contracts, corporate law and torts to employment law and intellectual property. You’ll also explore ethical issues in business, which is an increasingly important area of local and global business operations. During your studies you'll also be able to strengthen your skills through real-world, practical experiences such as internships and international study tours. After graduating, you could pursue a career in corporate advisory, navigate regulatory frameworks within government departments, or consult on international business matters like trade negotiations and cross-border transactions.
