What will I learn?

Advanced Science is an academically elite, honours degree course in which you can tailor your study to your interests in science, technology and mathematics. During your course, you will have access to world-class research groups, work-integrated learning, industry engagement, student-led projects and accelerated learning pathways. This course is unique in Western Australia in its multidisciplinary, project-based learning and scientific professional practice involving entrepreneurship, communication and leadership skills. These professional skills are essential in enabling agile and innovative responses to changing industry and employment circumstances. You’ll graduate with the skills to be a STEM leader who can apply advanced, multidisciplinary knowledge to address major science challenges.Every industry is using the increasing availability of large volumes of data to improve their efficiency. From predicting weather patterns and optimising harvesting in agriculture, to improving patient diagnosis and treatment in the health industry, to enhancing the management of remote infrastructure in mining, data scientists harness the power of data to drive innovation. Data science is a multidisciplinary field involving computing, statistics, internet technologies and media technologies. In this major, you’ll gain multidisciplinary, data science skillsets involving computing, statistics, and media and emerging internet technologies. This major is a Bachelor of Advanced Science honours course designed for high-performing students to pursue their interest in data science through an additional focus on research, leadership and entrepreneurship. The flexible approach to studying data science enables you to explore the field through for-credit immersive research experiences, industry placement and/or interdisciplinary team-based projects.

For international students

To apply for entry into this course, you must have met:

  • the course ATAR (Australian Tertiary Academic Rank) or equivalent recognised overseas qualification
  • ATAR - 95
  • Completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCE, ACT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70; and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - 39
