What will I learn?

Advanced Science is an academically elite, honours degree course in which you can tailor your study to your interests in science, technology and mathematics. During your course, you will have access to world-class research groups, work-integrated learning, industry engagement, student-led projects and accelerated learning pathways. This course is unique in Western Australia in its multidisciplinary, project-based learning and scientific professional practice involving entrepreneurship, communication and leadership skills. These professional skills are essential in enabling agile and innovative responses to changing industry and employment circumstances. You’ll graduate with the skills to be a STEM leader who can apply advanced, multidisciplinary knowledge to address major science challenges.This course equips you with leadership and entrepreneurial skills so that you can contribute to science innovation. Curtin hosts numerous esteemed groups and centres undertaking high-impact research, ranging from agriculture to space sciences. Learn how work-integrated learning helps you build career skills and connect with industry early. The sustainability of human life on earth depends on the health and function of our natural environment, which requires a deep understanding of environmental systems and the practical skills to manage them. In this course, you’ll gain the advanced expertise to lead initiatives that address global environmental and societal challenges related to climate, environmental monitoring, sustainability and Earth’s natural resources. Advanced Science majors are designed for high-performing students to pursue their interest in science innovation through a combination of discipline knowledge, immersive projects, and leadership and entrepreneurship learning. As an Advanced Science student, you’ll be part of a community of excellence comprising students from Curtin’s 13 Advanced Science majors, who come together to participate in interdisciplinary STEM projects, exchange ideas and enhance each other’s learning and networks. You’ll also benefit from engagement with research leaders, industry experts and specialised workshops in entrepreneurship, leadership and communication.

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for entry into this course, you must have met:

  • the course ATAR (Australian Tertiary Academic Rank) or equivalent recognised overseas qualification
  • ATAR - 95
  • Completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCE, ACT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70; and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - 39
