What will I learn?

This course will give you expertise in various areas of communication. You will study subjects in media, design and business, and gain foundational knowledge in corporate communications. You’ll develop critical thinking skills and use commercial-level equipment to create content for print, radio, film, television and online media. To build your degree, you'll choose two specialisations to study from our media, and design and communications options. You’ll graduate with the training and professional skills for traditional and emerging media and communication careers. This course culminates in a capstone unit, where you’ll get to work on an applied project relevant to your chosen specialisations. You'll build a portfolio of work, meet industry professionals, use commercial-level communications software and facilities, including our media production and photography studios. Our Communications course gives you flexibility with your degree, with a choice of two specialisations from eight areas.The study of journalism encompasses many of the most important areas for learning and discussion in the world right now: truth, fake news, freedom of speech, cancel culture, democratic structures, media literacy and critical thinking. In this specialisation you’ll learn practical reporting skills such as research, interviewing, writing and presenting. You’ll be introduced to contemporary multimedia journalism and learn how to report for audio, video and online formats. You can design your degree to suit your interests by choosing from a range of media specialisations. You can build your portfolio and work experience, and network with industry professionals.

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for entry into this course, you must have met:

  • the course ATAR (Australian Tertiary Academic Rank) or equivalent recognised overseas qualification
  • ATAR - 70
  • Completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCE, ACT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70; and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - 24
