What will I learn?

Play a critical role in diagnosing disease and improving patient outcomes with our Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine. Medical laboratory scientists are at the heart of modern healthcare, providing the data that guides clinical decisions and treatment. Throughout your laboratory medicine degree, you’ll develop a strong understanding of disease processes and how they are investigated through diagnostic testing. You’ll learn to safely handle and analyse clinical specimens such as blood, tissue, urine and other biological samples, using industry-standard techniques to generate and interpret results. Our laboratory medicine course covers key areas such as biochemistry, haematology, immunology, microbiology, histopathology, diagnostic genomics and transfusion science, giving you both broad knowledge and specialised skills across laboratory medicine. You’ll gain extensive hands-on experience in modern laboratories and study within the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, surrounded by hospitals and leading research facilities. Through practical training and placements in diagnostic pathology laboratories, you’ll apply your skills in real clinical environments. By the time you graduate, you’ll be equipped with in-demand technical, analytical and professional skills to work in hospitals and pathology laboratories, or pursue further study in areas such as biomedical science, clinical diagnostics or research.
