What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Music with Honours is a one-year Bachelor Honours degree available to students after graduating with the three-year Bachelor of Music.

The Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree aims to produce graduates who are highly skilled, musically adaptable and equipped to enter further Higher Degree by Research (HDR) study and/or professional life as creative and flexible 21st century musical performers and researchers This program will provide the opportunity for students to develop their specialist interests through a program of research and practice-based work.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Standard academic entry to our undergraduate degrees requires completion of secondary school comparable to Australian Year 12 or equivalent academic achievement. Successful completion with minimum aggregate score of 26. IELTS: minimum score of 6.5, with no subscore less than 6.0 or TOEFL: a minimum score of 575 or Internet-based (IBT) TOEFL: a score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19) or Pearson Test of English (Academic): an overall score of 58 with no score less than 50 or ISLPR: no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR.

For international students

To be eligible for admission to this Honours program, a student will be expected to meet the following requirements:

  • have successfully completed the requirements of a Bachelor of Music or hold a three or four year degree in music from a recognised university which is equivalent to the Bachelor of Music at Griffith University;
  • have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.6 (on a scale of 7.0) or equivalent from a recognised University (consideration will be given to students who achieve a minimum GPA of 5.6 in the final year of their program);
  • have a minimum grade of 6.0 in two second or third year Music Literature courses or demonstrate a standard equivalent to a grade of 6.0 in two final year music literature courses from a recognised University AND have completed 2329QCM Introduction to Music Research(or equivalent) and achieved a minimum grade of 6.0.

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0; OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL; OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19); OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only); OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English); OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.
