What will I learn?

This course integrates the fundamental sciences linked to human nutrition with practical experience, giving you the specialist expertise to contribute to global health and wellbeing. You’ll learn the science of nutrition and understand the connection between what we eat, how food is made and overall health. We encourage you to apply for membership of the Nutrition Society of Australia. Graduates are eligible to be recognised as an Associate Nutritionist by the Nutrition Society of Australia. Our experienced, passionate and supportive lecturers, tutors and unit coordinators will help prepare you to succeed in the evolving nutrition landscape. Develop real-world experience before you graduate. Learn how work-integrated learning helps you build career skills and connect with industry early. You will develop knowledge across culinary nutrition, physiology, biochemistry, food chemistry and biostatistics, alongside an introduction to health and food behaviours. You will explore the effects of diet on health and human development across the life cycle.As your studies progress, you’ll build on these foundations and evaluate the latest scientific literature in the field of nutrition. Your learning will include sustainability principles and nutrition communication – preparing you for the ever-changing ways modern communities and populations understand and engage with food. Throughout the course, you’ll gain practical experience in Curtin’s dedicated nutrition laboratory. You’ll also complete a 75-hour professional placement that will develop your professional identity, hone your career direction, and facilitate your transition to the workplace or to postgraduate study.

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for entry into this course, you must have met:

  • the course ATAR (Australian Tertiary Academic Rank) or equivalent recognised overseas qualification
  • ATAR - 70
  • Completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCE, ACT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70; and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - 24
  • Prerequisite subjects - Essential subjects - At least one science subject from the following list: Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology or Physics.
