What will I learn?

Develop advanced information technology knowledge and specialise in business analysis, computer science, or cyber security and networks.


You will gain advanced knowledge, based on research practices, in at least one Information Technology (IT) discipline, and develop the ability to formulate best practice IT strategies and solutions.

As a graduate, you will have the specialist knowledge and skills required for IT-related middle-management positions, or you can continue onto a Master of Information Management.

Prepares you for careers including cyber security and networking, business analyst and computer systems.

Complete in 1 year full-time.

Choose from one of three majors:

If you're looking to develop advanced knowledge in at least one information technology discipline, this is the course for you. Your design and problem-solving skills will allow you to critically analyse problem spaces, assess alternate IT solutions, and evaluate outcomes. Application of your IT knowledge and skills will result in considered and relevant IT solutions. You will graduate with well-developed professional attitudes, behaviours and judgements.

Completing this course in just one year full-time, in one of three majors:

Business Analysis - design and problem-solving skills will allow you to critically analyse complex work environments, assess alternate information systems solutions, and evaluate outcomes.
Computer Science - extends your understanding of computer programming beyond being a mere user of programming language to an appreciation of their design and implementation.
Cyber Security and Networks (new) - you will develop abilities in the investigation and appraisal of complex cyber security and networking challenges. and the application of approaches.

Real-world learning

During your studies, you will experience a range of learning approaches, including:

  • project-based units requiring you to apply theoretical and technical knowledge in the development of artefacts such as software applications, business cases, technical specifications, conceptual models and theoretical frameworks;
  • using real world and research-inspired problems within units;
  • using advanced analytical, conceptual and logical thinking processes to solve novel and complex problems;
  • covering relevant contemporary IT and interpersonal capabilities necessary for you to be prepared to move into senior professional positions.

You will be qualified to work with IT service providers, consultancies and vendors, and be in demand in government departments, the finance and banking sector, and within healthcare, advanced manufacturing, engineering, mining and agriculture.

A completed recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in the relevant discipline. IELTS Academic - Overall 6.5, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 6.0; Pearson PTE (Academic) - Overall 58, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 50; TOEFL iBT - Overall 79, Listening Reading -16; Writing - 21; Speaking - 18. Cambridge Advanced English Score - Overall 176, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 169.

For international students

1 year program

  • A recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in any discipline; or
  • A recognised diploma (or higher qualification) in information technology and at least two years full-time (or equivalent) professional work experience in the information technology field; or
  • At least five years full-time (or equivalent) professional work experience in the information technology field

0.5 year program

  • Successful completion of QUT’s IN18 Graduate Certificate in Information Technology
