What will I learn?

This course will expand your specialist knowledge and skills in clinical exercise physiology for a range of target pathologies and population groups. You’ll gain the expertise to assess, prescribe, deliver and adapt exercise interventions to guide and optimise health and function for people with chronic medical conditions, injuries and disabilities. These include cardiovascular, respiratory, chronic renal, metabolic and neurological conditions and musculoskeletal pain, mental health and cancer.This course offers blended learning and throughout the course you’ll learn to work with clients through client-centred care and evidence-based approaches, to provide optimal care that encompasses the whole person (including comorbidities). You’ll have fully supported clinical practicum opportunities, including the option of a clinical placement in Cambodia, and beneficial interprofessional education with students in other Curtin allied health courses. In addition to gaining advanced theoretical knowledge, you’ll have the opportunity to develop valuable research skills to confidently take you into the workforce or to pursue research in a specialist area. Note that practical classes may require students to disrobe as appropriate for the learning of clinical skills.This is a practical course featuring content informed by industry, including the standards of Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA).All units are taught by specialist academics and industry experts who have clinical experience in their particular area, giving you direct insights into industry practice.You’ll have opportunities to learn from lived-experience educators and guest speakers.You’ll gain hands-on experience working with a range of accredited exercise physiologists in clinical and community settings.Our Clinical Exercise Physiology Practicum skills units equip you with several professional practice certifications.

Entry requirements

For international students

In addition to passing all units, all students must fulfil the minimum practical competency requirement of completing 360 clinical hours divided into 200hrs in the cardiovascular/musculoskeletal/metabolic stream, 100hrs in respiratory/neurological/cancer/renal/mental health, 60 hrs in "other".

  • A completed personal statement

Non-Curtin University applicants (who have completed an ESSA approved course):

  • Eligible to graduate from (ongoing academic transcript) or can demonstrate the completion (academic transcript and or award certificate) of ESSA approved course
  • A completed personal statement

Non-Curtin University applicants (who have completed a Non-ESSA approved course):

  • Eligible to graduate from (ongoing academic transcript) or can demonstrate the completion (academic transcript and or award certificate) of Non-ESSA approved course
  • A completed personal statement
  • Graduate Entry Assessment lodgement email or outcome letter of Non-ESSA Graduate Entry Assessment OR
  • Applicants are a current or past ESSA Accredited Exercise Scientist (must include accreditation evidence such as Accreditation certificate and/or ID number)
