From Mathematics to Medicinal Chemistry Biotechnology to Geography and Food Science to Photonics, the sheer range of specialisations available in the BSc(Hons) programme means you’re sure to find your niche. What’s more, you’ll be able to deepen your knowledge and skills in your specialist area. After graduating with a BSc(Hons), it’s possible to progress to a Master of Science (MSc) degree. If you achieve First or Second Class First Division Honours in your BSc(Hons), you’ll be eligible for direct entry to a PhD. Postgraduate study in Applied Mathematics focuses on mathematical and computational models to formulate and solve real-world problems from a variety of areas within science and technology. From analysing the most efficient way to schedule airline routes between cities, to the effects and safety of new drugs, applied maths is a good foundation to apply alongside many other sciences. You will learn how to build mathematical models, how to formulate mathematical ideas for useful modeling, alongside learning about the solutions of models.Medicinal Chemistry is one of the most rapidly developing areas within the discipline of Chemistry. It is the study of the design, synthesis, biochemical effects, regulatory and ethical aspects of drugs for the treatment of disease. Core courses in Chemistry, alongside Biology and Pharmacology, provide a strong foundation in the chemical techniques required to work in this exciting field. If you want to be at the forefront of designing and discovering new compounds that are suitable for use as new drugs, and learn about how a substance operates in the body and its suitability for use as a drug - Medicinal Chemistry is for you.
