What will I learn?

A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves original and sustained research, mentored by an academic supervisor. It’s an opportunity to make new discoveries, address some of the big issues of our time, challenge yourself, and develop a mix of transferable and specialised skills.Build your understanding of the fundamental nature of the universe and take the chance to apply your insights across a broad range of disciplines. Studying in the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, you'll get the benefit of strong cross-discipline links, unique research connections and a collaborative approach. You might take advantage of the School's strength in materials science and nanotechnology, where a combined expertise in both chemistry and physics gives it an edge. Or you might choose to work in areas where physics meets the earth sciences, engineering or biology. You can focus on theory or look into practical applications of your work, using the School's state-of-the-art research equipment and modern laboratory facilities.
