Learn about the zoo industry and wildlife management, in the UK and internationally, with our Animal Management (Zoo and Wildlife Conservation) degree at ARU in Writtle.

If you’re passionate about zoo animals and wildlife and want to support breeding and conservation efforts, our industry-focused course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to pursue a successful career.

As well as hands-on learning with animals, you’ll study a range of modules that cover animal health, zoo management and conservation. It’s ideal if you’re interested in a career in roles such as zoo keeping, zoo nutrition or wildlife education.

You’ll be taught by subject-specialist staff, and benefit from campus facilities including dedicated canine and equine centres, a small animal unit and a working farm. Throughout your course, there’s the chance to join ‘behind the scenes’ trips and other experiences.

Careers

Our Animal Management (Zoo and Wildlife Conservation) degree gives you a comprehensive understanding of the zoo industry and wildlife management. As a graduate, you could consider a number of careers including:

  • zoo keeping
  • zoo nutrition
  • zoo and wildlife education.

You could also consider roles in related fields, with previous graduates finding success working in animal nutrition, animal welfare officer roles, nutrition company sales, and veterinary pharmaceutical and equipment supplies. You might also progress to vet school.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • Entrants will normally be required to hold 120 Level 4 & 120 Level 5 credits ( i.e HND) from a relevant subject, or equivalent. Alternative qualifications may be accepted.
  • If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
