Learn how to apply descriptive, predictive and prescriptive modelling techniques to help organisations improve performance, explore alternatives, and anticipate and shape business outcomes in a rapidly changing environment. You also develop an understanding of fundamental analytics techniques, such as statistical analysis, machine learning, optimisation, simulation, and spreadsheet modelling.

Upon graduation, you will be ready to start a career in a variety of industries and sectors including airline, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, banking, marketing and government.

Teaching and assessment

The programme involves a taught and a project component.

Your progress on this course is assessed by coursework only. Students wishing to undertake the optional industrial placement will be required to successfully complete all stage 1 modules. The Industrial Placement is assessed by the completion of the Industrial Placement Report.

Industrial placements are the perfect way for you to enhance your career prospects and deepen your understanding of a specific area of expertise.

This MSc programme is available with the option to take a 12-month industrial placement, allowing you to gain work experience in the UK or overseas.

While the placements are self-sought, The School offers support to those students seeking an industrial placement, through extra-curricular engagement with our dedicated placements team.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For entry to a Kent postgraduate degree programme (Master’s), US students typically need to have completed a four-year undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s or First Professional degree) at an accredited university or college. Exact requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree you are applying for and the institution you have studied at. For programmes that require a 2:1 we usually ask for a final GPA of 3.2/4.0. Students from highly ranked institutions may be accepted with a GPA of 3.0/4.0. For programmes that require a 2:2 we usually ask for a final GPA of 3.0/4.0. Students from highly ranked institutions may be accepted with a GPA of 2.8/4.0. Some, but not all, postgraduate programmes require your undergraduate degree to have a related major. Some postgraduate programmes may require work experience in a relevant field or at a certain level. For MBA, Students who wish to apply for a higher degree should have a good honours degree from the UK (minimum 2:2) or equivalent internationally recognised qualification. Exceptions will be considered for senior managers with more than ten years’ managerial work experience. Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in R&W; 5.5 in S&L).
