What will I learn?

A unique combination of curation and creative practice, allowing practitioners in the growing GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) sector to focus doctoral research studies on one discipline, or combine two. Enhance your analysis and research knowledge and skills at doctoral level, alongside developing advanced critical and independent study.Study in our School of Arts & Creative Industries and benefit from our unique association with international art gallery Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), who are acknowledged across the sector as a leader in curatorial approaches and socially engaged practice. The academic and practice context of the School and MIMA provide the foundations for a course underpinned with strong research metrics and approaches. This research focus allows you to co-create and interpret new knowledge through original research, which is at the forefront of your area of professional practice or academic discipline. You are provided with in-depth knowledge of the ever-evolving ethical, social, political and practical approaches within the cultural and creative sectors.Learn from an international and established academic team, and industry professionals with significant experience in both industry and academia. Build your own connections with access to international, national and regional networks of professionals across the creative and cultural sectors, further developing your advanced skillset to reflect sector needs.

Entry requirements

For international students

A master's degree and a minimum of three years' applied sector experience. You must also submit a short research proposal. You will be invited to interview, where you must show you have recent and relevant study or practice in curation or creative practice.
