English with Creative Writing and Film with Foundation - BA (Hons)

Combine your study of English literature with a pathway leading to an award tied to your interests and paving the way to your future career. You will study a common first year gaining a grounding in literary history, in theories of literature and in the skillsets for both creative writing and film. Alongside vibrant and engaging core modules covering the English literature content in years 2 and 3 students are able, guided by our dedicated teaching team, to curate their module choice from a range of options leading to the award of either the BA in English with Creative Writing, the BA in English with Film.The three and four-year (four with Foundation) English major-minor degree course (a major in English combined with a minor pathway) at UWL comprises a programme of study in English literature spanning the period from Shakespeare to contemporary authors such as Zadie Smith. Offering significant flexibility to students to shape the content of their degree, the final degree award title is based on the selection of modules and is planned in consultation with staff by students seeking a Major-Minor defined outcome during the first semester of Level 4. Students on the course will be acquainted with the variety of critical perspectives and analytical methods specific to the two areas of study of their degree. The course aims to foster an independent approach to formulating problems and arguments, using the close reading and analytical skills that are fundamental to the discipline of English Literature and to the discipline in combination with the specific theories and practices of the Creative Writing or Film pathway.**Foundation year**The foundation year course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to continue onto your Honours degree. You will study a range of subjects that will underpin your future study and also gain valuable experience of university life, with full access to campus facilities. Successful completion of the year allows you to progress straight onto Level 4 of this course.
