What will I learn?

About this courseHow do you become a better writer? On this course, you'll develop your creative and critical writing and discover the links between literature and visual culture, science, and politics. Your final project lets you complete an extended piece of imaginative writing. You'll be guided by our acclaimed novelists, journalists and playwrights. The course allows you to choose from Creative Writing and English options each year, building your knowledge of a range of genres and traditions. We'll encourage you to make connections between your critical and creative practice throughout the course.Key features of the course: - Study in a top 10 English department in the UK (Times Good University Guide, 2025) - Choose from a diverse range of modules, from medieval to contemporary literature and creative writing. - Partnerships with Chawton House and the John Hansard Gallery offer unique learning experiences. - Access cutting-edge Digital Humanities facilities including VR, 3D scanning, and immersive audio-visual spaces. - Opportunities to join Writers in Conversation workshops and over 40 student-led performing arts groups. - Option to study abroad at one of our global partner universities. You'll also have the opportunity to study abroad, spending a semester, a summer or even a full year at one of our global partner universities.Further information The BA English with Creative Writing is a three-year, full-time course at our Avenue Campus. Entry requirements

For international students

A-levels: AAB including an essay writing subject. International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass, with 34 points overall with 17 points at Higher Level, including 5 at Higher Level in an essay writing subject. RQF BTEC: Distinction, Distinction in the BTEC National Extended Diploma plus A in an A-level essay writing subject; Distinction, Distinction in the BTEC National Diploma plus A in an A-level essay writing subject; or Distinction in the BTEC National Extended Certificate plus A in an A-level essay writing subject and A in one further A-level. Applicants must hold GCSE English language (or GCSE English) (minimum grade 4/C) and mathematics (minimum grade 4/C).
