Applicants are required to have three A Levels at grades ABB, including a grade B in the advanced language they wish to study. However, it is also possible to study two beginner (including post-GCSE) languages without taking an advanced language. General Studies is accepted. Alternatively, applicants may present the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a total of 32 points, including 6, 5, 5 in Higher Level subjects, and must have studied the intended advanced language at Higher Level or equivalent. For BTEC qualifications, acceptable combinations include: BTEC Extended Diploma at DDM plus a B at A Level in the required language; BTEC Diploma at DD plus a B at A Level in the required subject; or BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at D plus AB at A Level, including the required language. Applicants who are not currently studying the language at A Level may also be considered if they hold an independent language diploma at B2 level, such as DELF-B2 (French), DELE-B2 (Spanish), Goethe-Zertifikat-B2 (German), DILI-B2 (Italian), or TRKI 2nd Certificate (Russian). These qualifications must be taken in addition to three A Levels or equivalent and are assessed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
