What will I learn?

Our course develops the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to promote and protect public health and wellbeing. You will be equipped to fulfil a variety of roles in health promotion and public health, working in local authorities, health services or the voluntary sector We focus on the ways people and communities can empower themselves to improve their health, and how public policy can create healthier societies and places. You will also investigate the psychology of behaviour change, together with how people learn about health. The research strand will enable you to critically appraise evidence and develop research skills. We have been providing specialist postgraduate health promotion training for more than forty years, and our courses are up-to-date with all the dynamic and current changes taking place in public health in the UK and globally. Our contacts with practitioners in the public health community are well established, both regionally and nationally. We have a track record for our evaluation work, research with communities, commitment to tackling inequalities in health, and in providing an evidence base for practice. Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries, giving a chance to share experience, learn from each other and develop collaborative practice. A large number of our students have continued their career as public health consultants and health promotion specialists.
