What will I learn?

Our vision for Initial Teacher Education at LSBU is to cultivate a community of reflexive practitioners who design and deliver engaging, interactive, and inclusive learning experiences. Our goal is to develop critical, reflective teachers who ensure every learner can thrive.

The Primary PGCE course at LSBU is designed to enable trainee teachers to meet the Teachers’ Standards and be recommended to the Department for Education (DfE) for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). On successful completion of the course, trainee teachers will gain a PGCE, which is an internationally recognised teaching qualification. With 80 credits at Masters’ Level, the course provides a firm foundation for further M level study, and a full MA. With a focus on inclusive, equitable and sustainable practice, and placement experiences in a variety of our partnership schools across London, including special schools and additionally resourced mainstream settings, the course provides an excellent preparation for teaching in a wide range of schools including diverse urban learning communities. Subject specific training prepares trainee teachers to teach all primary curriculum subjects. Opportunities to investigate specific aspects of teaching and/or curriculum subjects prepares trainee teachers for future specialist roles and leadership responsibility within schools.
