Enjoy focused academic contact – We pride ourselves on competitive contact hours. These take place in small groups, encouraging active language learning through engagement with cultural material. You’ll be assessed in different ways to suit each module. At the start of a module, you’ll be told how and when you’ll be assessed. Methods will vary but may include coursework (e.g., essays), group or individual presentations and projects, exams, reports or computer-based assignments.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants are expected to have ABB at A Level, including a grade B in the advanced language they wish to study. It is also possible to pursue two beginner (including post-GCSE) languages without taking an advanced language. General Studies is accepted. For the IB Diploma, a total of 32 points is required with 6,5,5 in Higher Level subjects, including a Higher Level or equivalent in the intended modern language. For BTEC qualifications, the following combinations are accepted: BTEC Extended Diploma with DDM plus a B at A Level in the required subject(s); BTEC Diploma with DD plus a B at A Level in the required subject(s); and BTEC Subsidiary Diploma with D plus AB at A Level, including the required subject(s). Applicants who are not currently studying the required language at A Level may still be considered if they hold an independent language diploma at B2 level, such as DELF-B2 (French), DELE-B2 (Spanish), Goethe-Zertifikat-B2 (German), DILI-B2 (Italian), or TRKI 2nd Certificate (Russian). These diplomas must comply with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and will be accepted in addition to three A Levels or equivalent qualifications.
