What will I learn?

Spatial and Interior design is an expanding field, moving beyond the fixed spaces of retail and urban environments to include independent structures and the utilisation of existing spaces in advertising and marketing, public and commercial infographic campaigns (visual communication of information). You will learn the skills to transform existing urban spaces and design temporary or ephemeral architecture for festivals, celebrations, promotions and other interventions. Exploring different cultural perspectives on design and understanding how creative agencies operate globally, for example at mega events such as Expo, World Cup, and Olympics and international trade fairs and festivals.You will explore and exploit the digital age, developing a responsive practice where you are proficient working in 2D, 3D and 4D – with moving images.You will study all aspects of Spatial and Interior Design, from digital modelling and hands on sketch and scale model making to developing the spatial and interior design skills to transform existing urban spaces and design temporary or ephemeral architecture for festivals, celebrations, promotions and other interventions. You will explore the diverse nature of the field, while giving you opportunities to develop creative and practical specialisms (retail, exhibition, display and interior design for example).You will be fully prepared for a career in spatial and interior design within the expanding multidisciplinary opportunities in the Creative Industries.There are options to take a Year in Industry and to study for a Year or Term Abroad.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For entry to a Kent undergraduate degree programme, US students typically need to have: A High School Graduation Diploma with a minimum final GPA of 3.2/4.0. PLUS one of the following: SAT with a score of between 1290 – 1380 depending on the subject you are applying for OR ACT with a score of between 27-29 depending on the subject you are applying for OR 3 SAT Subject Tests with scores of between 600-700 depending on the subject you are applying for OR 2 Advanced Placement (AP) tests with scores of between 4-5 depending on the subject you are applying for. Applicants will also be considered with the following: A combination of SAT Subject Tests and Advanced Placement (AP) tests; An Associate Degree with a GPA of at least 3.2/4.0; 1 or 2 years of a US Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.2/4.0; International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificates as per standard University of Kent requirements; College-level classes/honors classes on a case-by-case basis. Students who have completed 2-3 years of a Bachelor’s degree in the US with a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 may be considered for 2nd year entry to a Kent undergraduate programme provided they have taken sufficient classes in their major. Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in R&W; 5.5 in S&L).
