What will I learn?

African American Studies is a broad and varied academic discipline that focuses primarily on studying the history, culture, and politics of African-descended people in the United States.Students will examine fundamental concepts such as the social, legal, and economic systems that came to be as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and African migration, as well as the cultures, communities, and artistic expression that emerged as a result throughout the African diaspora.The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in African-American Studies 120 semester hours to complete.This program is designed to prepare students for careers in teaching, research, and social service agency employment, as well as provide pre-professional training for graduate study.An African-American Studies major must take thirty-six (36) semester hours of interdisciplinary African-American course cognates.
