What will I learn?

The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer degree at Los Medanos College prepares students to transfer into a curriculum at a CSU to pursue a baccalaureate degree in biology. The ADT in Biology will introduce students to many areas of study including cytology, biochemical cycles, proteonomics, genenomics, reproduction, embryonic development, ecology, comparative anatomy and physiology and evolution. To earn the Associate Degree for Transfer: 1. Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses, 2.Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0, 3. Minimum grade of ''C'' (or ''P'') for each course in the major, and 4. Completion of IGETC and/or CSU GE-Breadth Certain ADTs are based on completion of IGETC for STEM or CSU GE-Breadth for STEM. Students choosing to transfer are strongly encouraged to see an LMC Counselor since four year college requirements vary widely and are subject to change.The LMC biology department offers courses that satisfy a wide range of major and non-major requirements. We offer general education courses for transfer and AA degrees, as well as pre-nursing classes for students interested in applying to RN or LVN programs. We also offer lower division biology majors courses required for students interested in medicine and biology research. We are pleased to offer our courses at both the Pittsburg and Brentwood campuses of Los Medanos College, in our modern, purpose-built facilities. We are even more pleased to have a dedicated and talented teaching and support staff who consistently receive great praise and excellent evaluations from our students.Program learning outcomes - 1. Biological Knowledge Develop evidenced-based responses to address scientific questions utilizing the core biological principles of: interrelationship of structure and function, the unity and diversity of living organisms at various levels of organization, and evolutionary change over time. 2. Process of Science Conduct hypothesis-driven scientific inquiry to address biological questions and contribute to the ever-expanding body of scientific knowledge. 3. Communication Communicate scientific findings and biological concepts to a variety of audiences in written form and orally, both individually and as a team.

Entry requirements

For international students

Admission to Los Medanos College is open to the following:

1. Graduates of a regionally accredited high school,

2. Applicants who are 18 years of age or older.

In order to qualify for admission, the following is required:

  • TOEFL iBT - 61, iTP Institutional TOEFL only accepted for study abroad students from partner institutions - 500
  • IELTS 5.5 (minimum band score of 4.5)
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) - 160
  • iTEP Academic - 3.5
  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) - 45
  • Duolingo - Test score of 90

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
