What will I learn?

Become an effective economics teacher by strengthening your knowledge of both education and economics. Study how markets work. Learn what is produced, how it is produced, and how income is distributed. Explore subjects such as: The role and impact of international trade, The effect of monopolies on the economy, The problems of unemployment and inflation. Your studies will provide you with a framework for evaluating policy to determine whether they help improve the quality of people’s lives. You will be equipped to help design solutions for society’s economic problems. You will also learn how to turn your knowledge into effective, engaging lessons for secondary students that will help them develop the skills they need to graduate as economically literate and flourishing citizens.The economics education degree is part of a nationally accredited program that leads to certification to teach middle school and high school social studies. The program educational goals align to professional standards established by the National Council for the Social Studies and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. Economics Content Knowledge: Students will gain and demonstrate an understanding of foundational economic principles. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will use economic concepts and models to explain economic behavior and outcomes, to evaluate policy impact, and to propose solution strategies. Analytical Thinking Skills: Students will develop quantitative reasoning by using econometrics and mathematical approaches to solve models, assess solutions, and interpret empirical evidence. Communication Skills: Students will communicate effectively about economic ideas, issues, and analyses and develop proficiency in a foreign language.

Applicants to the University must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have equivalent credentials. Specifically, for post-secondary, degree-seeking programs, we consider for admission students who

  • are beyond the age of compulsory secondary school attendance in Delaware.
