What will I learn?

As a history student, you’ll be learning from some of the most respected history scholars in the country in an intimate setting. And you’ll have the opportunity to do research alongside these accomplished historians. The history and political science department offers a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in History, as well as several minors. As a history major, you can also couple a Bachelor of Arts in History with a secondary education certificate, which certifies you to teach history in grades 9-12 in the state.History is a response to the eternal desire of human beings to know more about themselves. For this reason, history students experience a variety of courses, which emphasize the importance of people, their individual choices, their values and their ways of seeing themselves and their world. History majors study humans' accumulated heritage from the fossil past to the nuclear present. This varied course of study includes fundamental survey classes, specific chronological or topical investigations, and special topic seminars. At Missouri S&T individuals who hold Ph.D. degrees and are publishing scholars teach virtually all of your history and political science courses. The hallmark of the program is individual attention. In upper-level courses, efforts are made to keep class sizes small enough to enable discussion, which in turn provides for a greater breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding, and for personal student-professor associations.

Entry requirements

For international students

Missouri S&T seeks international students who have a strong probability of succeeding at the university. Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
