What will I learn?

The major in Computer Information Systems involves the study and analysis of the design of an information gathering and processing system using computers. The typical graduate finds employment in business, industry, or government, as a programmer, analyst, information technology support specialist or in other positions related to operating and managing a modern information technology system. Some choose to continue their study as a graduate student. With experience or further study, a graduate may advance to positions such as systems analyst, software engineer, project manager, database administrator, or manager of information systems. Admission to all computer information systems courses numbered 400 or above requires a 2.5 GPA in addition to other course prerequisites. Computer Information Systems majors must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to continue with the program. Students seeking the Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Computer Information Systems must complete the following curriculum. At least 50 percent of the upper division business credit hours (i.e., the credit hours from the areas of Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Computer Information Systems) that are required for the Bachelor in Business Administration degree must be earned at Pittsburg State University.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School Academic Records: A minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in high school and have earned a high school diploma

International College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in an accredited international post-secondary institution (college/university)

U.S. College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) if transferring from an accredited U.S. college with at least 24 credit hours (approximately one year of college work)

English Language Requirement

TOEFL score of at least 68 (iBT) is required. In addition, a minimum score of 15 is required in each section (internet).

IELTS: Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.0. in each band of the IELTS is required. If a lower score is earned in any of the five band scores, the overall score cannot be accepted.

PTE: Overall score of 47.

Application Deadline: Fall Semester – June 1st, Spring Semester – October 15th.
