What will I learn?

Inspire a new generation through music. Through our Instrumental emphasis, you'll hone your technical and musical skills, including your ability to play a variety of musical instruments, critical analysis of music, and understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of globally diverse music. Building on that foundation, you'll develop teaching skills, including instruction planning and strategies as well as learner evaluation and assessment. By working directly with elementary and secondary school students, you'll apply and practice the skills you acquire. Emphasis This degree is an emphasis within the Music Secondary Education program. Official transcripts from all secondary (high school) and post-secondary (college/university) education to your application for the admission evaluation (including vocational and ESL transcripts).Require a minimum 2.5 grade-point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for first-year and transfer students without an associate degree.Admission requirementsIndividual program admission requirements over and above admission to NAU are required. In order to declare a Music Major, you must apply and be accepted to the School of Music. Please visit the School of Music website.To receive Professional Education Programs (PEP) approval, candidates must:Be a declared Secondary Education major in this program.Complete MUS 200 with a Grade of "C" or better.Complete the Program's Mathematic Foundations requirement with a Grade of "C" or better.Complete the English foundations requirement (ENG 105 or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If your English GPA is below 3.0, you may take an approved writing course to achieve the 3.0 GPA).A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5Complete and submit your IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card; Youth Suicide Prevention Training; Professional Dispositions Modules; Equity Survey; and a Professional Responsibility Statement. Your State-approved Identity-Verified Print (IVP) fingerprint clearance card is obtainable through the Arizona Department of Public Safety Additional requirements:You must be declared in this major.
