What will I learn?

Applied physics is about quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, computational and experimental methods. Students will also develop skills in classical mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.Students who successfully complete the Applied Physics Bachelor of Science degree program will be able to: 1. Core Concepts: Demonstrate a mastery of the foundational knowledge and skills of core aspects of Physics, including Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Optics, Thermodynamics, and Quantum Mechanics. 2. Demonstrated in external STEM concentration Graduates will have demonstrated proficiency in Mathematics and Computer science as well as proficiency in an Applied STEM field through the completion of an external minor in an approved STEM discipline. 3. Critical Thinking Skills: Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate data, identify key scientific questions in Physics as well as an applied specialty, and communicate the approach and results clearly. In addition, students will be able to utilize and apply complex mathematical methods to describe the physical world around them. 4. Research Skills: Demonstrate working knowledge of the experimental, calculational, and analytic tools required for professional employment in various STEM fields. This includes demonstrating scientific thinking, the ability to acquire the technical skills necessary to be involved with scientific research, and the ability to develop and employ analytical skills that enable rigorous qualitative and quantitative scientific data evaluation.

Applicants to the University must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have equivalent credentials. Specifically, for post-secondary, degree-seeking programs, we consider for admission students who

  • have the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma; or
