The Bachelor of Science in Biology provides a strong foundation in modern biology. The Biomedical Sciences emphasis is for students dedicated to the advancement of science and who plan to pursue careers in biomedical research, medicine and other health professions. The program of study includes training in biological systems with a focus on anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics and genomics. The department is renowned for its groundbreaking research in specialized areas, including genetics and genomics, population biology and ecology. Students are encouraged to engage in independent research.The Bachelor of Science in Biology is for students interested in biodiversity and the natural world who want the flexibility to pursue careers in medicine, health, agriculture and environment. The curriculum provides a broad overview of the structure, function, and evolution of biological systems from component parts-molecules and cells-to organisms, communities and ecosystems. Biology majors choose from two degree emphases: Biomedical Sciences and Organismal Biology. These are also offered on the AZ Online Campus as well. The Biomedical Sciences emphasis is for students who plan to pursue careers in biomedical research, medicine and other health professions. The program of study provides training in systems biology with a focus on anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, and includes all of the coursework required for admission to medical school.Students are strongly encouraged to participate in independent research, either by working in faculty labs or through targeted programs.

Entry requirements

For international students

Unofficial secondary/high school transcripts may be used for the initial admission evaluation. Official transcripts or official exam results are required at the time of enrollment. If a transcript is not in English, a certified English translation must accompany the transcript. Strong applicants will have a minimum recalculated grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 over the course of their last three years of academic coursework. GPA recalculation takes place during admission review. Prior to enrollment, students must obtain a high school diploma, certificate, or GED.
