What will I learn?

If you see yourself in an educational leadership role outside of the traditional classroom, consider the Leadership and Learning Innovation major. Communities are always in need of individuals who have expertise on how to make learning accessible for all. Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Learning Innovation fill lead roles in a wide range of fields, including volunteer programming, nonprofit work, youth services, and community education and outreach. The undergraduate experience teaches students how to design traditional and digital instruction that turns complex ideas into understandable and accessible content and empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds to engage in learning outside of the traditional school setting. Students also earn academic credit and gain valuable work experience through internships at a variety of local, national and international organizations.LEARNING OUTCOMESDesign instruction that helps learners read and access information, make sense of complex ideas, and express understanding through multiple means using multiple modes and media.Identify and evaluate the value of formal and informal learning environments and apply strategies that positively impact success for learners of all backgrounds.Compare multiple approaches to leadership in defining their own leadership style and apply leadership practices to contemporary problems in educational settings.Career Readiness and Engagement investigate and prepare for possible career paths and opportunities supported by a degree in Literacy, Learning.Social Justice express the value of human diversity, recognize systems of oppression and privilege, and explore innovative ways to address persistent inequities in educational contexts.

Entry requirements

For international students

Unofficial secondary/high school transcripts may be used for the initial admission evaluation. Official transcripts or official exam results are required at the time of enrollment. If a transcript is not in English, a certified English translation must accompany the transcript. Strong applicants will have a minimum recalculated grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 over the course of their last three years of academic coursework. GPA recalculation takes place during admission review. Prior to enrollment, students must obtain a high school diploma, certificate, or GED.
