What will I learn?

Explore theory within the context of neuroscience and cognitive science to develop a scientific understanding of the philosophies of the mind. A subset of understanding the nervous system and its relationship to cognition involves complex theoretical issues. Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a Philosophy of Mind emphasis delve into the philosophical aspects of cognition. They investigate how neural networks affect consciousness, moral judgment and other facets of the mind. Coursework also covers the study of moral and social evolutionary changes and the philosophical and ethical dynamics of science, psychiatry and more. In addition to this philosophical focus, students gain a broad knowledge base in core physics, chemistry, biology and math courses and valuable hands-on research experience.LEARNING OUTCOMESCore knowledge-specific content Students will develop a firm understanding of the theories, fundamental principles and concepts, and technologies of brain organization and function from both neuroscience and cognitive science perspectives.Scientific inquiry Students will develop the capacity to think critically and with cognitive flexibility about complex problems involving the brain and mind, and will develop the capacity to skillfully communicate concepts and research results to professionals and to the public.Ethics and Professionalism Students will apply ethical and professional standards to their evaluation of brain and mind-related research and technical development in the context of their own work and in the context of issues in the larger societal community.

Entry requirements

For international students

Unofficial secondary/high school transcripts may be used for the initial admission evaluation. Official transcripts or official exam results are required at the time of enrollment. If a transcript is not in English, a certified English translation must accompany the transcript. Strong applicants will have a minimum recalculated grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 over the course of their last three years of academic coursework. GPA recalculation takes place during admission review. Prior to enrollment, students must obtain a high school diploma, certificate, or GED.
