What will I learn?

Lewis University offers two pathways to certification, either a bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree in Radiography. While the professional component is the same for both degrees, the bachelor's program requires more prerequisite credit hours. Students who earn a bachelor’s degree become entry-level radiologic technologists and have opportunities for increased mobility for roles that require a bachelor’s degree. The associate’s degree provides students the baseline pathway into a radiography career. Students complete the required prerequisites of academic courses before beginning the professional radiography component. The radiography technologist program at Lewis University’s Chicago-based campus has three key differentiators that set it apart from other radiography schools: As a radiographer, you will use imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images of the human body, to help doctors develop accurate diagnoses. The Radiography program at Lewis University will prepare you to build a foundation of knowledge and skills to work with patients and others in the medical profession, as well as operate scanning equipment. At Lewis University you will learn theory in the classroom, and application of concepts and skills in the simulation lab at our Oak Brook site and in clinical settings. The program uses the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) radiography curriculum plan. Upon completion of the 21-month program, graduates of the program will meet the educational requirements for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Once the ethics requirement has been met, the student will be eligible to apply take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).Students may also double major in Biology and Radiography. This would take five years with the first three years spent taking classes at Lewis University and the last two years at NMH. Students would apply for the Radiography program in the spring of their third year with the understanding that NMH determines acceptance into this program.
