What will I learn?

Electrical engineers design devices and systems that transport, transform, and control electrical energy to accomplish tasks. From the hardly visible circuits that power today's mobile computing devices to the electrical grid that carries electricity across the country, electrical engineers design, build, test, and deploy circuits that operate at all these scales and for a tremendous variety of purposes. They develop solutions to problems that obey design, performance, and safety constraints, using their deep knowledge of mathematics and physics to optimize their innovations. Lewis University’s electrical engineering program focuses on the large-scale applications associated with the electric power grid, electric machinery, control systems, and power electronics, but the dependence of these applications on other areas of the field, including radio frequency interference, electromagnetism, and digital logic, means that graduates of this program will possess both the breadth and depth of knowledge needed to begin long, productive careers in the electrical engineering field. Computer Engineering is the marriage of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. It focuses on computing in all forms, from microprocessors to embedded computing devices to laptop and desktop systems to supercomputers. As such, it concerns the electrical engineering considerations of how microprocessors function, are designed, and are optimized how data is communicated among electronic components how integrated systems of electronic components are designed and how they operate to process instructions expressed in software and how software is written, compiled, and optimized for specific hardware platforms. Therefore, computer engineers are electrical engineers who specialize in software design, hardware design, or systems design that integrates both. The Bachelor’s to Master of Science Fast Track Program option allows qualified Lewis University undergraduate Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering majors to complete the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE) program in just one year.
