What will I learn?

The Early Childhood/Special Education-Early Childhood PreK-3 Licensure Program is designed to prepare MAT candidates to work with all young children including children with disabilities and developmental delays (0-8 years) within inclusive, diverse settings.Program RequirementsThe Early Childhood/Special Education-Early Childhood PreK-3 Licensure Program includes the following existing Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Literacy, ICL, and EDPR courses:EDPR 7111 - Child Development & Education Credit Hours: 3LITL 7553 - Literacy Dev K-4 Credit Hours: (3)SPED 6601 - Student Phys/Health Dis Credit Hours: (3)ECED 6540 - Pln/Fclt Infnt/Tdlr Dev Credit Hours: (3)ECED 7101 - Early Child Teach/Learn Credit Hours: (3)SPED 7221 - Behavior Mgmt Spec Ed Credit Hours: (3)ECED 7102 - Obs/Asmt Intsv Chld Stg Credit Hours: (3)SPED 7121 - Ed Prog Presc Ed/Disbl Credit Hours: (3)SPED 7141 - Field Exper Early Child Credit Hours: (3-6)ICL 7808 - Clinical Teaching Semester Credit Hours: (3-9)ICL 7993 - Professional Seminar Credit Hours: (3)Note: For students who have a job embedded position, 6 hrs. of Clinical Teaching are waived.Graduation RequirementsAll graduating candidates enrolled in this MAT program of study must successfully complete:The 39 credit hours listed in the proposed program of study (including the Clinical Teaching Semester and Professional Seminar)Maintain a minimum 3.25 graduate GPAPass the PRAXIS II Exams (Special Education for Knowledge and Application 5354 with a qualifying score of 151 Special Education Preschool Early Childhood 5691 with a qualifying score of 159 and Teaching Reading Elementary Education 5203 with a qualifying score of 162)

Entry requirements

For international students

Baccalaureate Degree: The applicant must provide an official transcript showing that a bachelors degree was awarded by an accredited college or university. If you are a UofM undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at UofM, you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions. This office has access to your transcript. In addition, transcripts from any other college or university attended may be requested. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents.

GPA: The applicant must have earned an acceptable grade point average, typically a minimum of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0, but departments may make exceptions for students whose overall GPA does not adequately reflect their ability to succeed in their chosen field.

English proficiency test scores accepted by the University:

  • Duolingo English Test-110 or higher on the overall score.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) 550 or higher on the paper version, 80 or higher on the internet-based test
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)- 6.5 or higher
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English) - 59 or higher

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
