Baylor University’s Master of Arts in Teaching program is designed for individuals with a non-education bachelor’s degree who are ready to become certified classroom teachers. In just over a year, you’ll earn both your teaching certification and master’s degree-through a nationally recognized model that blends rigorous coursework with faculty-guided clinical experiences. Start in June, be classroom-ready by the following August.At Baylor University, the Master of Arts in Teaching program combines academic excellence with a faith-driven mission that prepares you to lead with compassion, integrity, and purpose. You’ll be supported by dedicated faculty, small cohorts, and a community that nurtures both your skills and calling to serve.Built on the foundation of Baylor’s nationally award-winning teacher-education model, our Master of Arts in Teaching offers several initial certification pathways. Students interested in middle and secondary certification can pursue content areas in English, History, Life Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish.Elementary (EC-6) Education (Early Childhood – Grade 6 General Education certification): ELEMiddle Grades Education (Grades 4-8 content-specific certification): MLESecondary Education (Grades 7-12 content-specific certification / 6-12 for physical science certification): SLEThe Master of Arts in Teaching program at Baylor University has three concentrations: Elementary Education, Middle Education, and Secondary Education. Students seeking content-specific certifications for middle or secondary education will follow the Middle Education and Secondary Education degree plans, respectively. Students seeking general certification for elementary education will follow the Elementary Education degree plan. All degree plans are a total of 36 hours in length.

Entry requirements

For international students

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelors degree in a content area and are seeking initial teacher certification to share their knowledge in a PreK–12 setting. This graduate program leads to a masters degree and supports students seeking their Texas teacher certification.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
