Civil engineers play a vital role in creating the built environment and in protecting the natural environment. They bring together science and art to create much of the tangible fabric of today’s society. Graduates of the civil engineering program may work as construction, environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, structural, transportation or water resource engineers.The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering emphasizes a balance of teaching and research in forefront areas of modern Civil and Environmental engineering.The Master of Science/Thesis (MS/Thesis) in Civil Engineering provides students with education in advanced civil engineering topics as well as research experience.

Entry requirements

For international students

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline from an accredited college or university.

Good academic standing at the academic institution last attended.

A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all coursework attempted as an upper division student (beyond 60 semester credit hours).

The GRE requirement has been waived (and extended) for all engineering masters applicants through Fall 2026.
